OPEN BURNING

Open Burning commences October 1st annually and continues to April 15th the following year.  There is a brief permit period from April 16th to May 15th if the weather conditions allow.  Commencing May 16th there is absolutely no open burning with the exception of properly contained fire pits for cooking purposes only.

Please note that residents in the R.1 and R.5 (Residential zones inlcuding Modular Home Communities) require a permit throughout the open burning season and will no longer be permitted to open burn in any circumstance commencing January 1st, 2013.

Anyone open burning must have a compentent person in charge of the fire at all times and is required to have all necessary extinguishment tools available at the site of the open burn.  More details regarding open burning are provided on the
Township of Spallumcheen Open Burning Notice.

When Camp Fire bans are activated the Township will circulate notices in the local media:  Vernon Morning Star and Okanagan Advertiser.  Please contact the office for confirmation prior to any burning to avoid potential for municipal ticketing at 250-546-3013 or toll free at 1-866-546-3013.

Respectfully,

Cindy Graves
Deputy Corporate Officer
