The Township of Spallumcheen operates a chip seal program approximately every five years with the objective to decrease the number of gravel roads within the Township, as well as to maintain and improve the conditions of existing chip sealed roads. This project will apply graded aggregate seal coat (chip seal) to approximately 32 km of roadway within the Township boundary. All previously sealed roads will require a single seal coat. The remainder of existing gravel roads, which have never been sealed, will require a double seal coat. Construction will commence in August 2021 and be completed by October 2021.
This project is part of the 2021 Capital Road Improvement budget.
Improvements
The upcoming improvements will include the application of a graded aggregate seal coat. This is a common type of road resurfacing involving the application of a protective moisture-resistant mixture along with a compacted aggregate surface which work together to provide a smooth, anti-skid, dust-free driving surface that ultimately improves the quality, safety, and longevity of the roadway.

What to Expect
Construction will commence in August 2021 and be completed by October 2021.
Typical hours of work will be from 7 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday, although there may be some requirement for weekend work as the project progresses. Please be aware that there will be heavy equipment working in the area as crews complete the project improvements.
Throughout construction, there are no anticipated complete road closures, but some areas may be subject to single lane alternating traffic. There are no anticipated impacts to homeowners.
