The Township of Spallumcheen has activated a Level #1 Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) at 12:33 hours on Saturday, July 31, 2021 due to a Wildfire located west of the Township of Spallumcheen identified as the White Rock Lake Fire under BC Wildfire # K61884.  The Township will continue to assess the situation and will respond as the event unfolds.  Any progression of this incident will be related to winds drawing the fire closer to local area residents.  A map of the fire can be accessed via the BC Wildfire website (link here) and then click on the interactive map.

The EOC has been activated to ensure our residents are aware of this wildfire's proximity to our borders and are prepared in the event  an evacuation alert is issued. BC Wildfire will determine if and when an evacuation alert is required for areas of Spallumcheen.  Should BC Wildfire expand the area for evacuation alert, the mapping outlining the location of the alert will be provided on our website and to local media. In addition, notices will be hand delivered to affected residents.

Until we understand the wildfire behaviour, we are asking residents in the west of Spallumcheen to ensure they are prepared for the possibility of an evacuation alert. Prepared BC website advises what you can do to be prepared in the event of an alert.  The Armstrong Spallumcheen Fire Chief is monitoring and further assessing the situation with BC Wildfire and Township staff.  Communications will continue to be provided on the Township’s website at www.spallumcheentwp.bc.ca under News and Events.
