Notice of Low-Level Helicopter Flights – May 14 to June 14, 2025

The Township of Spallumcheen is advising residents that low-level helicopter flights will be taking place over the township and surrounding areas from May 14 to June 14, 2025, as part of FortisBC’s annual aerial inspection of natural gas transmission lines.

These inspections will be conducted by Talon Helicopters during daylight hours and will use LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) technology to identify any potential issues with the system. This is part of FortisBC’s commitment to safety, reliability, and proactive maintenance planning.

The helicopters are permitted by Transport Canada to fly at low levels, which allows them to inspect lines that previously had to be inspected by foot. The helicopter will pass through communities starting in mid-May for approximately two weeks. Flight time over a single area will be minimal.
