2022 GENERAL LOCAL ELECTIONS
NOTICE OF NOMINATION
PUBLIC NOTICE is hereby given to the electors of the Township of Spallumcheen that nominations for the following office(s) will be received by the Chief Election Officer, or designate:
MAYOR – One (1) to be elected

At the Municipal Office located at 4144 Spallumcheen Way, Spallumcheen, BC
|
Councillor – Six (6) to be elected
|
|
At the Municipal Office located at 4144 Spallumcheen Way, Spallumcheen, BC
|
SCHOOL TRUSTEE – One (1) to be elected at large within Trustee Electoral Area 1, which includes the Township of Spallumcheen, City of Armstrong, and Falkland/Silver Creek/Ranchero

At the Office for the Board of Education, School District #83 (North Okanagan-Shuswap) 341 Shuswap St. S.W., Salmon Arm, BC

Submissions must be received between 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 30, 2022 and no later than 4:00 p.m. Friday, September 9, 2022, excluding weekends and statutory holidays as follows:
- by hand, or
- by mail, or other delivery service, and
- Nominees can also submit their nomination documents via fax or email as long as originals of faxed or emailed nomination forms are submitted no later than 4:30 p.m. on Friday, September 16, 2022.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR OFFICE
To be nominated for office, and to be elected and hold office a person must:
- be a Canadian Citizen;
- be 18 years of age or older on general voting day, October 15, 2022;
- be a resident of British Columbia for six (6) months (March 8, 2022) immediately before the day the nomination papers are filed; and
- not be disqualified by the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election in BC or being nominated for, being elected to, or holding office; or be otherwise disqualified by law.
At the time of filing the nomination documents, the person nominated shall also file a written disclosure as required under the Financial Disclosure Act.

NOMINATION OF CANDIDATES
To be nominated for office you must be nominated by at least 2 qualified nominators (Spallumcheen property electors) as per the Township of Spallumcheen General Local Government Election Bylaw No. 1716, 2008. An individual cannot nominate more than the number of persons who are to be elected to fill the office for which the election is being held.

CAMPAIGN PERIOD EXPENSE LIMITS
In accordance with the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, for the 2022 General Local Election the following expense limits for candidates during the campaign period apply:
Mayor: $10,797.83 Councillor: $5,398.92

CANDIDATE WORKSHOP
A FREE pre-candidate workshop is being offered for interested residents of Spallumcheen, Armstrong, Coldstream, Enderby, Lumby & Vernon.
When: Wednesday, August 17, 2022
Time: 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm
Location: Dogwood Gymnasium, Vernon Recreation Centre

Nomination documents and further information can be obtained by contacting the Chief Election Officer or Deputy Chief Election Officer at the Township Office located at 4144 Spallumcheen Way, Spallumcheen, BC or via phone 250-546-3013 or Toll Free at 1-866-546-3013.
If there are more candidates nominated for office than there are to be elected for that office an election will be held SATURDAY, OCTOBER 15, 2022, with two advance voting opportunities on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 and Wednesday, October 12, 2022.
