Interested persons can obtain information on the requirements and procedures for making nominations including nomination forms on the Township of Spallumcheen website at www.spallumcheentwp.bc.ca and at the following locations Monday to Friday, excluding statutory holidays, from August 4, 2026 to the close of the Nomination period:

• For Mayor or Councillor at the Township of Spallumcheen office from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm
• For School Trustee at the District Education Support Center from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm

QUALIFICATIONS FOR OFFICE

A person is qualified to be nominated, elected, and to hold office as a member of local government if they meet the following criteria:
• Canadian citizen;
• 18 years of age or older on general voting day [Saturday, October 17, 2026];
• resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day nomination papers are filed; and
• not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election in British Columbia or being nominated for, being elected to or holding the office, or be otherwise disqualified by law.

CAMPAIGN PERIOD EXPENSE LIMITS

In accordance with the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, for the 2026 general local election, the following expense limits for candidates during the campaign period apply:

Mayor $12,323.78
Councillor $6,161.89
Trustee Electoral Area 1 Board of Education Trustee $9,598.94

THIRD PARTY ADVERTISING LIMITS

In accordance with the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, for the 2026 general local elections, the following third party advertising limits apply:

Mayor $924.28
Councillor $924.28
Trustee Electoral Area 1 Board of Education Trustee $924.28

If there are more candidates nominated for office than there are to be elected for that office an election will be held SATURDAY, OCTOBER 17, 2026, with two advance voting opportunities on Wednesday, October 7, 2026 and Wednesday, October 14, 2026.

NOMINATION INFORMATION SESSION

An information session will be held for individuals interested in running in the 2026 Local Government Election for the position of Mayor or Councillor with the Township of Spallumcheen. The session is designed to help prospective candidates better understand the responsibilities of elected office and to provide guidance on the nomination process.

Date:               Tuesday, August 18th, 2026

Time:              5:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Location:        Township of Spallumcheen Council Chambers

4144 Spallumcheen Way, Spallumcheen, BC

Individuals considering a nomination are encouraged to note that elected officials will serve a four-year term of office, providing an opportunity to contribute to the community’s future from November 2026 to November 2030.

The Session Will Include:

  • A presentation on the roles and responsibilities of elected officials prior to becoming a candidate
  • A review of the nomination package
  • A question-and-answer session

This session is open to both new and experienced nominees and we encourage anyone considering running for local government office within the Township to attend and learn more about:

  • The roles and responsibilities of local government elected officials
  • Completion and submission of nomination packages
  • serving their community through elected leadership.
