Wildfire BC has reported that the planned ignition was concluded yesterday evening. The area where the ignition occurred will continue to burn and produce smoke over the next several days.

With the smoke in the atmosphere, air quality may be a concern. We encourage residents to monitor air quality in the North Okanagan and plan activities accordingly. Air Quality updates are available at the Environment Canada website.

The ignitions brought the fire down to the established control lines and has reduced the risk of further growth and impacts to the areas where the fire poses the greatest risk to structures. BC Wildfire has indicated that this successful operation will allow containment to be achieved weeks ahead of the initial projects.

Residents are still encouraged to avoid use of back country areas and stay alert to signs of fire and report any signs of wildfire in back country areas to 1-800-663-5555 or *5555 from a cell phone.
