The Township of Spallumcheen, based on a recommendation from the Armstrong Spallumcheen Fire Chief, has suspended all mowing operations to mitigate the risk of fire during the recent hot and dry weather conditions.
Mowing occurs on non-manicured grassed areas like road right of ways or dryland areas. These areas carry higher risk of equipment striking an object, or potentially sparking, due to the presence of large rocks, culverts, and general discarded debris.
With mowing suspended, residents and visitors may notice taller weeds and grass until circumstances improve.
Our residents take great pride in the appearance of their community, and we just ask for patience in this very dry, hot weather so that we do not add to the risk of fire.
Mowing will continue on manicured turf like parks. Crews will monitor precipitation in the coming days and weeks to determine when it is safe to resume mowing.
