The Township of Spallumcheen has an exciting opportunity for an educated professional to take on the role of our Planning Technologist and join our team. The Township of Spallumcheen is a beautiful rural agricultural community in British Columbia located in the Spallumcheen Valley between Vernon and Enderby and surrounding Armstrong. Responsible for the maintenance of over 200 kilometers of roads, 8 water systems, several rural and urban parks, the Township of Spallumcheen boasts a rural land base of 26,892 hectares hosting 5,307 residents. Supported by a vibrant Industrial Park, residents and visitors experience the oldest and largest municipality in the Southern Interior of British Columbia. The Planning Technologist reports to the Manager of Planning and Development and is a key contributor for planning and building services provided to the community. The Planning Technologist also provides support to the Manager of Operations in mapping, AutoCAD and GIS services. Some of the duties of the position include:
This is a CUPE Local 2709 position with an hourly wage of $34.12 per hour and comprehensive benefits package. This position requires 8 hours of work per day with the hours generally being 8:00 am to 4:30 pm
Public Works Outside Worker - Operator I (Casual)
The Township of Spallumcheen is seeking applications for a casual Operator I.
The casual Operator I position is responsible for the skilled equipment operation and labour for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the Public Works infrastructure within the Township, including roads and drainage systems.
Highlights of duties include:
· Operate heavy equipment for a variety of duties including road maintenance, paving, snow and ice removal, water works, and mowing;
· Operate a variety of gas, electric, and manually powered hand tools for the maintenance and repair of municipal infrastructure;
· Perform physical labour in the completion of duties including road maintenance, snow and ice removal, mowing, water works and hauling;
· Ensure the maintenance and cleanliness of vehicles and tools;
· Maintain accurate operational and maintenance records as required.
The required education and experience for this position includes the completion of Grade 12, a Class 3 BC Driver’s Licence with air-brake endorsement, and a minimum of one year experience in a public or private sector construction environment. The nature of the position requires that the successful candidate work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and can complete duties requiring physical effort.
The casual description pool is designed so the Township has access to casual outside workers to primarily fill in during staff absences and times where there is an increase in seasonal peak workloads. This position offers the potential to obtain part time or full-time work for the Township.
Casual Employees are outlined in the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 2709 Collective Agreement under Article 23.03 (b) and shall be paid in accordance to Schedule A of the contract. The hourly rate of pay is $32.60 with an additional 16% in lieu of benefits (outlined in Article 17 Benefits, statutory holiday pay and vacation pay).

The Township of Spallumcheen is looking for an experienced professional to provide Casual coverage in the role of the Office Clerk ll/lII position. This position is a great opportunity for someone to work on a casual basis with potential for more. This is a bargaining unit position and is covered by the current CUPE Collective Agreement, Local 2709. The position requires availability on an ‘on call, as needed’ basis, with no guarantee of hours.
Reporting to the Township’s Corporate Officer, applicants are required to have completed Grade 12 and have a minimum of two years of work experience in a general office, financial/accounting environment or municipal government office.
Applicants will need to have experience to perform the following:
• Be self-motivated, highly organized, neat and accurate and have the ability to meet deadlines with a high level of detail; • A minimum typing skill of 50 wpm; • Ability to manage communications on the Township’s website; • Prepare Council and Committee meeting agendas and meeting minutes using electronic software; • Prepare correspondence, bylaws, and permits for approval with a high level of detail; • Work with limited supervision and be able to carry out precise record keeping; • General knowledge of local government organizations and services; • Operate general office equipment; • Maintain and ensure safe keeping of minutes, bylaws, permits and related documents; and • Prepare and organize advertisements and notices and fulfil legislative requirements within the Community Charter, Local Government Act, and Freedom of Information Protection of Privacy Act.
