The IPE is the largest Agricultural Fair in Western Canada and is held each year on the Labour Day long weekend. For more information please contact the IPE office at 250-546-9406 or visit their website.
An exquisite outdoor heated facility which is open from late May to September 1st. The pool offers a complete learn-to-swim program during July and August with hours set aside for the enjoyment of swimming in an outdoor atmosphere. Public swimming information can be obtained by calling 250-546-0914.
Surrounding the pool is the Armstrong-Spallumcheen Memorial Park. It contains playground equipment for all ages, beautiful flower beds, memorials, picnic tables and open areas. The four local school's fields provide additional green space, playground equipment, tennis, basketball courts, skateboarding areas and an outdoor box for lacrosse and road hockey.
Lots of fun at for skateboarders at our local skatepark. Located beside the Norval Arena at 3351 Park Drive in Armstrong, this skate park is perfect for all ages! Great for bikes and scooters as well!
In 2004, a new timber frame single ice pad arena was built in the City of Armstrong to replace the ice surface at Hassen Arena. The facility includes a full length ice surface, stadium seating for 400, and 6 dressing rooms. Active minor hockey and figure skating organizations provide programs for participants at all levels. This facility runs in the summer season without an ice surface and from April to July is home to the minor, senior and master lacrosse leagues. The centre also has a concession, boardroom and houses the Armstrong Spallumcheen Parks and Recreation Office. This facility is now home to many different activities from lacrosse to roller skating to indoor trade shows and other events. The Armstrong Spallumcheen Chamber of Commerce uses this facility for an annual trade show event and receives attention from other organizations like equine events, farmers markets and more. A fitness centre with a weight room, cardio room and stretching area is available for your fitness needs. This community hall has seating for 175 persons for banquets and other events. There is an adjoining theatre with a stage and fixed, raised seating for 160 persons. This facility can be utilized for small seminars and conferences requiring seating space and adjoining dining/dancing facilities. The local amateur Asparagus Theatre group hosts several theatrical productions each year for the enjoyment of the public. The main hall is equipped with banquet facilities and utilized for wedding receptions, banquet/dance functions, fitness classes, etc. For additional information or to make reservations, contact the Commission office at 250-546-9456.
Located within walking distance of the downtown core, pool, park and playground, this is the busiest facility in the community during the months of April to October. These facilities cater to the animal enthusiast with many organizations hosting horse and livestock shows. The facilities include two indoor show-rings, two outdoor show-rings, 210 box stalls for stabling horses, indoor stabling for cattle, swine and goats, grandstand seating for 3,000 persons, public washrooms with shower facilities and camping areas complete with water and power supply. So if you enjoy exhibiting your horsemanship skills or observing others demonstrating their abilities, the Armstrong-Spallumcheen Fairgrounds is the place to be. Commencing early Saturday mornings, your entire weekend could be spent enjoying the activities on the fairgrounds. The local Farmers' Market provides a vast assortment of in season fruits and vegetables, bedding plants and flowers, crafts, home baking, entertainment and friendly chat with your next door neighbour.
Organizations using the facilities are most happy to have spectators and throughout the summer you can delight in petting miniature horses, llamas, alpacas and rabbits, or observing dog agility and flyball trials, reining and horse shows of every breed imaginable. 4-H Youth are very active in this community and you can find them at the fairgrounds several times a year demonstrating their expertise with their projects. Most events at the fairgrounds are free of charge and everyone is welcome. You can then complete the day with a swim in the pool and a picnic in the park. In addition to the three ball diamonds provided by the Commission, an agreement with the local School District provides four more ball diamonds and six soccer fields. Successful ladies slow pitch, minor hardball and soccer leagues provide the sport enthusiast with many hours of enjoyment.
Through an agreement with the local School District, after hour use of school facilities is administered through the Commission. Okanagan University College provides a variety of night school activities from basket weaving and Spanish lessons to adult sports such as volleyball, badminton and basketball.
A non profit society which provides curling for all ages, this active group operates from October to March with leagues and instruction for ladies, men, mixed, junior and senior members.
This club meets from October to July each year and hosts lessons, clinics and shows in Armstrong. As part of the Canadian Pony Club there are many other regional events that are held yearly. Children 7-21 are able to be involved in the programs. Meetings are held at PVSS and lessons at the fair grounds. The District Commissioner for the Armstrong Pony Club is Ina Forrest, Para-olympic gold medalist.
