Fire protection services for all of Spallumcheen, including the Stepping Stones subdivision and areas near the southern border of the community, are currently provided by the Armstrong-Spallumcheen Fire Department (ASFD). The ASFD and RDNO Fire Departments operate under a Mutual Aid Agreement.
The ASFD remains the primary first responder for all fire-related emergencies within South Spallumcheen and the BX/Swan Lake Fire Department may be dispatched to provide assistance at the request of the Armstrong-Spallumcheen Fire Chief, under the mutual aid agreement.
Historically, the Township of Spallumcheen, through the ASFD, operated under a Dual Fire Protection Agreement with the Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO). This agreement allowed either the ASFD or the BX/Swan Lake Fire Department to be dispatched as primary responders.
In 2020, the Township received notice from the RDNO that the dual response agreement would not be renewed for a variety of reasons.
Following the expiry of the dual response agreement, the ASFD became the sole jurisdictional fire department responsible for providing fire protection services in the southern area of the Township.
