Understanding Your Water Rates

As part of our commitment to transparent and sustainable service delivery, the Township of Spallumcheen has introduced an updated water billing structure. This page explains how rates are set, what’s included in your bill, and what changes you can expect.

To ensure fair cost recovery and transparency, the Township has updated our billing model for the North and South LAS areas to reflect actual service delivery needs, infrastructure investments, and operating costs. These changes came into effect for July 1, 2025. Council has held water rates for the first three quarters of 2026 and has requested a review of water consumption and rates to come forward in the fall. This means water rates will stay consistent at $0.80/m3 for all consumption used. Further information about rates can be found below.

Invoice Terms Explained

  • Metered Base Rate: Flat fee charged to all customers with a metered connection to the system covering the ongoing operation and maintenance of the system
  • Unmetered Base Rate: Flat fee charged to all customers located within the Local Area Service but who do not have a connection.  Ensures that all water mains and infrastructure is maintained in order to ensure water is potentially available for all properties within the Local Area Service
  • Tier One Consumption: A per cubic meter charge applied for the first level of consumption from 1 - 80 m3
  • Tier Two Consumption: A per cubic meter charge applied for the second level of consumption from 81 m3 and up
  • Meter Read: The reading taken from your meter to calculate the amount of water consumed at your property
  • Consumption: Total water consumed at your property during the quarter

Rate Structure at a Glance

Base Rate: Invoiced quarterly for each connection

North - Metered Base Rate All Property Classes $252.50/quarter
 South - Metered Base Rate Industrial & Commercial $352.50/quarter
South - Metered Base rate Residential, Agricultural  $252.50/quarter
Unmetered Base Rate North or South $137.75/quarter
 
 
 

 

Consumption Charges: Consumption will now be billed in two tiers. 

  • Tier 1 is any consumption used by your property up to 80 cubic meters will be invoiced at $0.80/m3
  • Tier 2 takes effect on any amount over 80 cubic meters of water usage per quarter. Tier 2 consumption will be invoiced at $0.80/m³ for the first three quarters (January to September) of 2026. A review of consumption and rates will come forward to Council in the fall of 2026.
