Providing safe, reliable and secure supply of potable water through a well managed service.
The Township can be considered relatively unique in the province, with respect to the number of water improvements districts and systems located within an incorporated municipality. The uniqueness is due in part, because previously, there were no “municipal” water utilities in the Township, instead there were 18 independently managed Water Improvement District.
Stepping Stones, has been a Local Area Service of the Township since 1995 when the Vernon Irrigation District Dissolved by Order in Council of the Province.
Shortly after 2000, three existing Water Improvement Districts, requested dissolution, and were converted to Local Service Areas of the Township: Pleasant Valley, Round Prairie and Hankey. From 2021 to 2023, as part of its Community Development Plan goals, the Township converted six additional Water Improvement Districts who had each requested dissolution. This further enabled the Township to obtain significant infrastructure grants, which are being used to support the Township’s Long Term Water Strategy. Another component the Township’s broad water policy implementation strategy is to explore the feasibility of developing the framework for a community wide water system(s).
